I sure hate to play the role of big brother, but I need to. Do you guys know how to do this on the cheap? Perhapse being able to copy the list of history at some random point so that clearing the history does no good or something would be OK. I'd really rather not know if they're watching **** or not, so what I really want is to know the total number of pages visited during a given time. I've seen programs out there for $100 or more that do this, but before I go through all of that expense, I'll just take the internet away from them. BTW, we're talking about my employees. They just don't seem to be getting anything done, and I think it's the computer. I'd like for them to be able to look up lottery numbers and stocks and such things, but it won't last long like this (please help). Oh yeah, if there is a way for me to restrict or disable the internet for certain times throughout the day, I'd like to hear about that too. Maybe something like a timer or limiting bandwidth or the number of allowed page visits could be restricted??? heck I don't know.

    Thanks for any help!

Well, a third party software program I use called AdSubtract Pro might serve your detection needs. It cost me $15, and one of the (many) features is a tab called "log" that displays filtered items and http requests. You can delete history from Windows or IE, but it would still be listed by AdSubtract if you enabled the option. You would have complete record of a computer's web history. You could disable the icons and splash screen and "hide" it in the program files, or you could make a big production of the ad blocking software you just purchased for the employees' benefit... someone would have to poke around to realize what you are doing (monitoring) and by then you would have an idea who your problem was anyway. It's a free trial for 30 days, then it costs $30 to keep- just looked it up.

    AdSubtractPro

I have had this program for nearly 2 years (free updates!) and never any problems with it. It occured to me that this might solve your problem without the expensive software, and it does work on ads like it claims to.

As far as restricting internet usage, you can block users from specific sites, or use keywords- look on Google under "internet parental control" There are a host of options listed there.

Restricting by number of page hits would be a little tricky since a pop-up will show as a page visited. And some sites will fling 5 or 10 pop-ups at you.

    - Do you have an internal network (intranet)?

    - How do the users get out to the internet?
