I had an icon on my toolbar which connected me to my AT&T mail page. They changed the address of the page and I thought I would be able to fix it but I fouled it up. I know something special is needed to do this because the toolbar is a MS device and I am using Netscape v4.79. Ramona, could you please tell me how to fill in the boxes under the properties for the Netscape icon on the toolbar. When I try to drag the address from the location, it sets up an Explorer icon and Explorer opens instead of Netscape to give me the page. Many thanks.

Hi ackerberg! Even though you are asking Ramona's help, I didn't think you'd mind my 2 cents ;)

I have Netscape 4.79 on my Win95 system (yep, still going strong) with IE5.5sp2 as the default.... I had problems with Netscape Internet Shortcuts so I switched my default browser to IE and therefore IE opens LNK files now. Here is a workaround for a webpage shortcut to open Netscape to a specific webpage...

Make a copy of your Netscape shortcut icon, name it ATT Mail or whatever, and place it anywhere, on the desktop is a good spot. Right-click the shortcut, select Properties, go to the shortcut tab and check the target field:
    It should show
    "C:\Program Files\NETSCAPE\Communicator\Program\netscape.exe"
or, to open a specific profile,
    "C:\Program Files\NETSCAPE\Communicator\Program\netscape.exe" -P "yourprofilename" - see http://www.ufaq.org/commonly/select_profile.html

Anyway, to open Netscape with a specific URL, add a SPACE to the end of the target field, then add the URL for your ATT mail. For example, here is a single user shortcut target to this bbs:

    "C:\Program Files\NETSCAPE\Communicator\Program\netscape.exe" http://www.windowsbbs.com

For my wyman profile to open, it would be:
    "C:\Program Files\NETSCAPE\Communicator\Program\netscape.exe" -P "wyman" http://www.windowsbbs.com

I guess you can place the new Netscape ATT Mail shortcut in the "quick launch" area?

    Hi ackerberg,

You've been quite a stranger, but glad to see your problems are minor! Gee, a girl doesn't stand a chance with Alice around. I know you really, really, wanted me! ;)

At any rate, I was typing a response, when Alice gave you her solution. I had a slightly different approach, which was only a shortcut, and not realizing that you wanted to open the browser with the Mail page.

Strange that you can't drag the page to the Quick Launch tray for a shortcut, tho. Is Netscape your Default Browser, or IE? I can drag the ATT email page to the Quick Launch tray in 4.79, and it makes a shortcut with no problem?

At any rate, you're all set up, and good to see you around. Don't see much of the old Aptiva bunch anymore.

    Cheers!

    Ramona :D

    Quick Launch

    Thank you Alice and Ramona!
Alice's suggestions did the trick. I have Netscape as my default browser but when I drag a page address to the Quick Launch bar, it sets up an icon with the address, but when clicked it sends me to the address after opening IE, not Netscape.
This was intentional, of course, planned by MS.
    Thanks again.
