Dos vrs XP?

I'm new to this XP - I cannot seem to find files as easy as we did with DOS.

Example problem:

I am on Bellsouth Fast Access DSL.
Outlook Express handles my E-Mail.

So, I go online, get my mail, then go offline.

Now, I use Outlook Express. My mail is displayed. therefore there are some files somewhere

That's great.

But, Where exactly are those "files" and what is the "file extention" ?

What I wish to do is Delete one via the Windows Explorer.
OK, I know, I can delete using Outlook Express!!

But, I'm curious, and I want to be in control - not Windows.
So, where the xx??** is them there files?

Thanks folks

All the mail in your inbox is in ONE file called inbox.dbx

It's not easy at all to edit it.

Lost Files - again!!

Hello:

Ok, got your answer:

(All the mail in your inbox is in ONE file called inbox.dbx
It's not easy at all to edit it.)

Great, so I do a XP "start and search" on "inbox" (nothing)

Then I search on "*.dbx" (nothing)

Then a search on "inbox.dbx" (nothing)

At least the search tells be there is no such files on my computer.
And I put the .dbx extension into the view files folder options and set to be opened with
Outlook Express.
Then I go on line to see what programs use this extension "“ Microsoft says Outlook Express.

My question again "“ "WHERE" or:
What am I doing wrong?

You say it’s not too easy to edit "“ I just need to selectively delete a e-mail file or two.
So, if I ever find them .dbx’s, how do I do it?

Note: Got another answer to this and it said:
(They are in C:\Documents and Settings\username\something...)
Didn’t find them there!!

Thanks

Hi L W !

Start Outlook Express.
Click - Tools - Options - Maintenance.
Click the button "Storage Folder" or something similar. (My PC speaks swedish.)
Now You should be able to see the path to the storage location where all these *.dbx files are at.

Why can´t You delete these E-mails from within Outlook Express? I have taken a look into my inbox.dbx and it would be impossible to remove single messages using a text editor!

Hope this helps,
Christer
