Terminology and Office Scan

Our corporation recently installed TM's Office Scan on our computers. However, I cannot download updates to the program since I do not have the password and do not know the proxy setting. I contacted the IT person about our inability to update the virus scan and he replied: "I will setup an Ip to allow for updates for the office scan." What exactly does this mean? So far... still unable to download any updates and I cannot remove the program since I lack the darned password. I'd like to load Comodo's free anti-virus but I'm afraid the two will conflict. Does anyone know anything about this Office Scan? Thanks.
