    Hi-Ramona and All,
Just d/l Tbird so far so good....But, I can't get it to recieve msgs??? I can send msgs. to myself ok. I've set it up exactly as my primary account. It won't accept my password assigned to that email account. My ISP requires a password to sign in.
I've gone into server settings and deleted the requirement for a PW, still it won't work or requires one. Does T.bird require extensions to work? Does it work upon d/l?
A minor snag, I can read all that mail from the web via Firefox. Just wanted it to work on my new set up. I've installed a 2nd HD with XP and sp2. Running the latest FF. Really like FF. Hope to get Tbird to work also...
    Thanks everyone.
    John in Dallas.

    John,
I have TB0.8, and it, and its predecessors gave me no problem. If I enter the wrong password, and save it, I go to Tools|Options|Advanced|Saved Passwords|delete the one referring to the account.
Then on retrying I am asked again, enter the password and save it.
If you are doing that, you should be ok. Mostly, I would like to know how you got TB mail going. I assume that you started from scratch.

John, you don't need an extension for the Mail to work, and it most certainly should work upon download, once you have set up your Mail Accounts.

Could it be that you might have a typo in your SMTP settings? It's so easy to type SMPT, etc.

Click on Tools | Account Settings | Outgoing Server (SMTP)
ENable user name and password. Don't check the SSL connection either.

You might also double check with your Provider on the correct Port setting.

If none of the above works, or what Westside suggested, then try deleting the Mail Account by going to the Server Settings, and in the right panel scroll all the way to the bottom, and click on: Remove Account
    Close Thunderbird, then reopen
Recreate the Mail Account, and see if it works.

    HTH,

    Ramona

    T.bird

    Hi-everyone,
I think I have uncovered the problem, but can't resolve it!! I have one email account with my ISP and two email addresses!! Therein lies the problem, I believe....
They say I must log into my primary account before getting mail. That's right, I do on my C drive. However, when dual booting to F drive and trying to set up T.bird, it won't take either pass word for any account. I've tried mutiple settings --- just won't work!! Will not accept "any" password...
Traditionally, I've used the second email acct. for viewing on the web via their mail server. There must be a snag somewhere ??? I don't want to get my mail from my primary acct. on my F drive - only my second email address.
Westside: In response to your question...I simply d/l to my F drive and started setting it up...That simple...
Another strange action. When I sent a test msg. in Tbird on my F drive to myself, it worked fine. Then I went back to C drive and retrieved msgs.- that test msg. came through. It shouldn't be that way.
Somewhere, T.bird isn't recognizing the account or I'm not setting things up correctly. It's tied to that situation somewhere. Perhaps, my account
will only work on ONE drive. But - still, I should be able to LOG into my primary account in any drive of choice - then designate which address to view????
Am I asking too much of T.bird? Or something I have'nt thought of yet.
There isn't that many choices to mess up in T.bird. I have settings exactly as NS7.0 on C drive..
    Thanks for all your help.

    John,

I'm a total illiterate when it comes to dual booting, and partitioned HDD, etc. However, you should be able to access your Mail regardless of the location of the Mail Account folder.

On the F: drive, in the Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings | Server Settings
where does the "Local directory" path point? Does it point to the C: drive or the F: drive? If you must log in on the C: drive, then leave your Mail there, and on the F: drive, point the "Local directory" path to C:. I hope I'm understandinig you correctly.

There is no limit on the number of Mail Accounts you can have in one Profile, so I don't think this is an issue.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------

    Good Morning-Ramona,
I believe this is the problem....I have only ONE email account with several email addresses. Iv'e always viewed them on the web since I didn't want to confuse them with my primary account and cut down on spam.
The local directory path does point to F: drive in T.bird. I think there is serious problems with Tbird now.....It won't work in "limited user" rights - crashes constantly--only will open in "admin rights." I've been fiddleing so much---I've broke it!!!!
Apparently, it's not going to work as I want!! My email is tied to the one account. Still---since I can view ALL my addresses via the web and on C: drive, can't see why I can't view any 0f them on F: drive???
    Thanks all for your help.

    t.bird

    Well, Ramona,
My ISP says I can't separate email addresses from my main account. I'd have to log in and "duplicate" my settings for the main acct. , which I don't want to do. Therefore, I'll hve to view from the web as I've been doing.....
    Thanks for all you help..

You definitely should be able to log into your default Mail account on the F: drive. That's what I was trying to say earlier in the thread. In this Preference setting:
Tools | Account Settings | Server Settings
Scroll down to the "Local directory" path field, and change the path to so it will point to the location of your Mail Account on the C: drive, e.g.,
    C:\Documents and Settings\user_name\Application Data\Thunderbird\Profiles\profilename\Mail\pop.yourisp.net

You can do the same thing for your second account, with no conflicts. I have one ISP, and 6 accounts, or addresses, as you call them.

I think your ISP might be wrong, so as a test, I created a Mail folder on my G: external HDD, and named the folder G:\Mail. I then moved two of my Mail Account folders (copy/paste) to the G: drive, one of them being my default Mail Account/Address.

I then went to: Tools | Account Settings | Server Settings, changed the "Local directory" path from:
    C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Thunderbird\Profiles\profilename\Mail\pop.myisp.net
    To:
    G:\Mail

I was able to access both accounts, and can send and receive.

    FWIW,

    Ramona

    EDIT:

Just thought of another option. You could use the "Global" settings, and opt to file all incoming Mail from all Mail Accounts/Addresses in Local Folders folder. This setting is in: Tools | Account Settings | Server Settings
Click on the "Advanced" tab. Make the selection there, in both your default account and your second account.

    Ramona
