I'm using Office 97 on Win2K. The icons on my taskbar disappears and when I try to click on "Start" there is no response as if it froze. Please help anyone.

    1. Any event log errors about that time?
    2. Anything interesting in task manager (like something taking 100% cpu and staying there or similar)?
    3. Did it ever work?

I tried to check the logs and I couldn't find anything but since I couldn't click on the "Start" button on the taskbar I used the Ctrl-Alt-Del and chose shutdown. To my surprised the IE was still running and it might be the one causing it. I just upgraded to IE 6.0
    Please help. Thanks.

Since you can't use the start button, try makeing a desktop shortcut to eventvwr.exe and take a look that way.

Also, since it can't hurt and might help things out,

make a shortcut to cmd.exe and start a DOS window that way. Once there, type in the following and answer Yes when is asks about doing the job at next boot: Note that running these may take a while so be patient.

chkdsk c: /r (and the same for the remaining hard drives you have - do them all before the reboot)
