Taskbar too big

Hi folks, in Win 2000 I was able to keep my taskbar to one line and then scroll back and forth along the quicklaunch progs and open apps.

Now in Win XP it seems I cannot have a one-line-deep task bar with both quicklaunch apps listed along with open apps unless it's two-lines deep, which cuts into my workspace.

I'm not comfortable with auto-hide and the only work around I've found is to move the task bar onto my secondary monitor, but surely WinXP is not so rigid it can't work with me on this.

Any suggestions?

Hello Boppy,

Un-lock the taskbar by right clicking on a unused area of the tray > properties and then position the mouse over the edge untill a vertical arrow shows and pull down.

If you have a section with that broken segmented line on underneath on that 2nd line, have move that to the top line.

Hi Charles, thanks for your quick reply. The only dragging it will let me do is right down to completely hidden, not just to one line.

Currently I have two lines of icons: top is the start button and quick-launch apps, and below are tabs with my currently open programs.

The only way I can get to one line is to hide my quick-launches, but I really want these visible.

You have to grab that stuff on the 2nd line and move it to the right and up.

I do the same thing you do - i have 15 items in QL. The taskbar simply doesn't have room for that. There is a right double arrow indicating QL. If you click on that, the QL items pop up vertically.
