Task Manager problem

    :confused: The upper portion of the task manager pane does not show; i.e., the top where it allows you to go to other functions including cancel. After activating Task Manager, I cannot get rid of the panel and end up having to restart in order to rid my desktop of its presence. I have no idea why this is happening.
    I am running Windows XP Pro ver 5.1.2600 which is currently up to date.
