    Hi,
In the last 2 days or so, when my computer starts up I get an error message saying that windows cannot find system32.exe. When I search I can't find it and neither can the manufacturer's support technician. The computer works fine, so I obviously do not need this file. How can I stop this error message from being displayed? Re-installing Windows XP Home is not an option as I don't have the disk, just the Product Recovery CD that came with the computer.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

As you can see I posted that!

    Its just a registry entery!

The way to get rid of it is to do the following:

    1. Back up your registry,
    2. Go to Start > Run > type "regedit" and press enter,
    3. Make sure you are at the very top "My Computer" is selected,
    4. Go to Edit > Find... > type "System32.exe ",
    5. Remove/Edit the registrys as you find them,
    6. Repeating steps 3 to 5,
    7. If your not sure about what to do with the registrys, post them here what they say.

Or maybe a program like Registry First Aid could clear this problem for you.

    System32 Virus?

    Thanks Guys,
The problem seems to be solved.
PeteC your link helped me a lot but the on-line virus checker did not find any problems. Neither did my McAfee program. Went to your website, looks interesting. I'm in Telford so not far from you.
Gary Thanks for your info, I finally got to the bottom opf the problem.
Once again guys thanks a lot

    Cheers

    Tony
