I updated my video drivers to the latest manufacturers drivers which were created long after Win XP. They are "unsigned" drivers but they work just fine.

I was checking out system restore and see a restore point listed as "update to an unsigned drivers ". Does this mean IF I were having trouble with the drivers, I would select this restore point to return my system back to BEFORE the drivers were installed? The way it's listed it appears it would restore the system up to that point.

Also after creating a restore point, can you delete those you don't want or need?

    Correct...

To delete previous, you have to turn off restore and lose em all. Then turn it back on. "sometimes" setting the amount of hdd space to a lower number will work...

Thanks Steve. Seem like they should have a feature where you can selectively delete what you no longer need without loosing everything.

What's the limit as to the number of restore points it saves, I'm sure it doesn't keep an infinite number.....you'll end up loosing all you HD space.

    Hello AceH,

"What's the limit as to the number of restore points it saves, I'm sure it doesn't keep an infinite number.....you'll end up loosing all you HD space. "

The defualt space allocated for the System Volume Information folder - restore - is 12% of drive space. That can be lowered in the SR panel in: control panel > performance and maintenance > system > system restore tab.

For further info, see my post lower down in this section in the "no auto restore points" thread.

Please don't be insulted, but you need a manual.

The best one that I've come across for XP

Yes, although for drivers you have a more easy option called Driver Roll Back. If you open the Device Manager, you can select the device in question, and when you select the Driver tab, you'll see a button labeled Roll Back Driver....

    deleting restore points

I've been reading in some other lists that it is possible to delete individual restore points. Most of them indicate that it's necessary to get access to the "System Volume Information" folder, which under normal circumstances, NO ONE has access to! [I personally find it annoying that there are files on my computer that I'm not allowed to see.]
These guys <http://www.techimo.com/forum/t61969.html> have a few solutions, but I don't understand what he's talking about with the command line prompts (what the heck is "cacls ") and the second one doesn't work for me (I don't get a "Security" tab when I rt-click on that folder).
Before I join that group just to post and ask this question, does anyone here have any ideas?
The reason I need to do this is that my AVG resident shield has discovered a virus that was deleted in one of my restore points. I'd like to not have to delete them all just to get rid of one of them.
    Thanks,
    Wolf

I'm sorry, but just maybe - you shouldn't be messing with it then?

As to your question, CACLS are access control lists (who has permissions to a certain file/folder).

    That means either:

    1. You are not running NTFS
    2. You have WinXP Home Edition
    3. You have simple file sharing enabled (default) in WinXP Pro[/list=1]
