Hi All. Can I use MSINFO32 to get information about the contents of a Windows 2000 computer? If not, what if the proper command? Thank you.

Yes - if the information you want is among the things displayed by msinfo32. "Contents" is pretty non-specific so no way to give a better answer.

Newt, Thank you for your rsponse. The "contents" of MSINFO32 is very detailed in Windows98. Or did you mean the "contents of my request? My concern was that the MSINFO32 command would not apply to Windows 2000 because of NTFS as opposed to FAT32. I would like to get comparable information from a W2000 system that I'm going to examine shortly.

    Hi Derfsch

Cain't you download to your computer and burn to CD to take to your friends?

The Aida is a little over 2 megs so will not fit on a floppy without spliting it.

Look also at Belarc advisor http://www.crucial.com/support/belarc_download.asp

Also here is a smaller one that will give some very limited but very specific and important info:

    CPUZ

    www.cpuid.com

    Bill_R and Mike,

Consider this post solved. I took the advice from each of you and downloaded Aida32 to a CD. This program is amazing. It provided much more information than I could ever use. My thanks to each of you for your generous comments.

    Hee hee!

    So right.

    Thanks Tony!

I have actually also looked everywhere (I thought) for my Sunglasses when I had actually pulled them back on top of my head. Lol!

In fact Comp Mgmt will sometime show more, but I have had ocassion where Aida or Belarc showed something more or just more details.

derfsch - glad someone turned you on to an excellent app.

But for your information, the msinfo32 command works fine on 2K and is a little more detailed for NTFS file systems than FAT32 I think. Not sure since I only have NTFS systems to play with. But it certainly does work and certainly does give lots of information.

My original comment was just as it sounded. I wasn't aware you were familiar with the 9X command and wanted to say that while msinfo32 tells you lots about a system, there are things it doesn't deal with so is useless if those things are the "contents" that interest you.

As to you folks who lost and then found the sunglasses, why in the world were you wearing them inside where your PC(s) should be located anyway? I'll just never understand young folks. :D

    LOL!

    Newt

The reference to my sunglases was a metaphor, to show how short minded I am. You know like looking for your keys when they are in your hand.

But a better description would be a "Senior Moment" which at 58 is my priviledge and right!!!! Lol!

Thank you for providing all the info I'll need to look at a Windows 2000 system. And compared to me, Mike is a teen ager who has helped this SENIOR and his senior moments in the past.
