My PC is a 2001 IBM Net Vista 2276. It came with Win Me. A year ago I upgraded to XP. Over time I began to experience system freezes and they became more frequent. Last week I upgraded the memory to 512 (from the original 128) and it worked great until Saturday when it started freezing again. I think the problem might be related to my dvd player. I installed PowerWin DVD 5 last week and the problems began after I watched a few dvd's. I've downloaded the most current chipset from Intel but the problem still persists. Can anyone help?
    Thanks,
    Bill

    billd67 - Welcome to the Board :)

Freezes can be very difficult to pin down .....

A few suggestions based on your post .....

In Device Manager disable the DVD drive - any change?

May be temperature related - playing DVD's puts a fair load on the system. Have a peek inside the case, blow out any dust and check that the cooling fans are running.

Run the PC without the case side on for a while.

You can check the mobo and CPU temperatures, etc (assuming temp sensors are fitted to your board) by running Everest If you are unsure if the temps are OK post some here.

Take a look in Event Viewer and see if there are any Error Messages at the time of a freeze. Double click on a message to open and on the icon below the up/down arrows to copy and paste here if relevant.
