A friend is having troubles with his WinME system. Variety of issues and the whole thing sounded sorta spyware/malwareish.

He has just finished running updated Ad-aware & Spybot with the appropriate stuff deleted and updated Sypwareblaster so pretty well protected and reasonably clean at this point but still a few issues.

In the HJT log below I noticed svchost.exe running from \windows and I'm not familiar enough with ME to be sure but I didn't think it used svchost.exe and I know on NT systems, any version running from a location other than \windows\system32 is a baddie.

That and any other baddies that need removal with a step-by-step how-to would be appreciated. Alan is around 3000 miles east of me so not feasible to lay hands on his PC and will have to rely on emailed advice.

Thanks Dave. Anything special about getting rid of it or can you just whack the 04 process and delete the .exe? As noted, ME is foreign territory and the articles were in agreement it was a baddie but other than a couple of products that will remove the critter, manual removal instructions seemed in short supply.

AVG appears to have overlooked it so maybe an online scan to make sure there aren't others that hide better?
