Is starting multiple instances of itself during boot up and if you don't kill all but the one that is not killable the system will not boot. I cannot find any reference to this file or what it does on the Microsoft support site or references anywhere else. If you rename the file in the windows/system32 directory it complains at you every few minutes. It is acting like a virus but I have tried three different scanners and it comes up clean. Anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks,
    Joe

    hi joe
like joeh. asked - was it a typo that it should have been svchost instead ? - but - hmmm - not boot - if you are able to kill the processes you are also running a full system ? there are different worms or viruses that either install themself as a service in the system or could have infected the system by coping itself into a exe which looks like svchost.exe - eg scvhost.exe - seen several variants myself - try to download f.eks stinger.exe or start the system in safe mode and look for what is hidden in run or runonce keys in the registry

    regards /ti
