substitute injet ink

    What happens if I use bulk ink specified for Lexmark/IBM to replenish an HP
    deskjet 8300 printer (b&w,color). Thanks.

    If both inks are of the same sort, i.e. dye based or pigment based the only possible drawback I would see is the possibility of a colour shift. After all ink is ~90% water :)

    I would not contemplate replacing a dye ink with a pigment based ink or vice versa - the design of the print heads differ.

    The use of third party compatible inks is fairly widespread.
