    Hi All,

I have a small (16MB) USB drive that I've had for most of the year now, and have had no problems with it, until now.

My older MB died on me, so I decided to upgrade to a newer board, case, PS, processor, & memory to go with my new HD.

Upon formatting the new HD (4 partitions) & reloading W98se, I then mounted the USB drive as I had done on the older system. But this time, instead of having just a listing in MY Computer for Removable Disk Drive H...I also had an extra listing for USB Disk D also!

It seems that the original D partition was moved to E...(E to F)...(F to G), and so on.

Drive D, & drive H have the same identicle info...I tried to reformat & reload the OS again, but am having the same problem.

Anyone ever heard of this happening before?!

    P. S. Please forgive me if I don't respond quickly...My wife's mother fell and broke her leg Sunday and is in the hospital...I'm burning the candle at both ends for a while. :(

Just to add to the 1st post....Drive D is listed as a hard drive  Only drive H is listed as "removable "

I emptied the USB drive contents and then decompressed it as well, reformatted the Maxtor HD, reloaded Windows, but after connecting the USB drive again the problem came back again after rebooting.

In Device Manager (Under the performance tab), it say's:

Drive D is using an MS-DOS compatibility mode file system.

I clicked on the details button and got this message...(Not sure what to make of it though).

This problem often occurs on more than one drive. Usually it is caused by a driver listed in the Config.sys file that Windows does not recognize and that is related to the message Compatibility mode paging reduces overall system performance. If you see both messages, see the Help for the Compatibility mode paging reduces overall system performance message first.
