My daughter has Windows 2000. For about a week computer would freeze shortly after getting on line and they would have to shut down manually. Now today, computer starts up, goes through all the starter stuff, but get to desktop and shows desktop icons, but seems like computer keeps on running and and she cannot click on start menu or any of the icons. The hour glass just keeps on showing. Would appreciate any help. Thank you.

    Hey, Joe ~

When you say 'online', do you mean on an internet connection or just turning the unit on?

check they error log for that particular week, although it may have been overwritten.

also see if you can bring up task manager when you get to the desktop. if yo can go to the processes tab and see if there are any runaway processes
