Hi, lister110.

I think you need to open a "command prompt" window first.

• Click Start > Run...
• Type cmd
• Click the OK button. (This should open a "command prompt" window.)
• Type ipconfig /all at the command line prompt and then hit your "Enter" key.
• After gathering your information you need from the command prompt window, type exit at the command line prompt and then hit your "Enter" key to close the command prompt window.

Please let us know if this works or not or if you want further assistance.

mailman explains the situation rather well. Your command line opens and runs the command, but immediately closes the windows that would allow you to view the results.

In the alternative to what mailman suggested, you could also:

Start, Run, cmd /k ipconfig /all

The cmd /k asks XP to keep the results Window open until you manually close it.

if I use the cmd

If I type cmd in the run window I get a message saying another program is currently using this file? When I type command and enter the ip config nothing happens? Its like the command.com window does not respond when I hit return?

any ideas?

Ignore command.com

Start, Run, cmd

Should work.

Also you can Start, All Programs, Accessories, Command Prompt.

If you keep getting an error that another program is using the file, please download HijackThis, place it in a new folder all its own, and execute the program.

Save the log file and post it back to the Forum.
