Any more help on this one?

Can we pick back up on this thread? I am experiencing almost identical symptoms here. The only difference so far is that I haven't been able to get my start menu to come back. I never had the a.exe or svchost file referenced from page 1 of this thread.

Also, my usprserv.txt ends up just looking like this:

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\usprserv]
    "Start "=dword:00000004

All the other stuff is the same though with the high number of unsigned files in the windows\system32 directory, no start menu, no copy and paste, unable to move icons on the desktop, internet explorer flashes open and then exits.

I also notice that when I bring up the Services window on the Extended tab I just have a blue square where the services should be. If I click over to the Standard tab I see my services but hardly any of them are started.

My wife says the only attachments she opened lately were a .pub file that failed to open since we don't have publisher installed and a .doc file container someones Christmas list. Any further help is very much appreciated!

    Welcome to WindowsBBS jfkv :)

Please download and install HijackThis and create a log, then a Deckard's System Scanner main.txt log and post them both here. Links and instructions here.
