I HAVE POSTED THIS TWICE BECAUSE I FORGOT TO ASK FOR INSTANT NOTIFICATION THE FIRST TIME. SORRY EVERYONE !!

I never had a problem using Standby before I installed SP2 but after I recently installed SP2, returning from standby hangs and I end up having to reboot anyway.

Which brings up the next question: I use Firefox, Thunderbird and Zonealarm. Is there anything else that SP2 does other than fixing IE, OE and adding a miniscule firewall.

If I didn't have thousands invested in Win software and data, I would consider Linux at this point.

    I have deleted your dupe.

Like many others you have found that Standby (and Hibernate) are not reliable and although you ask for a fix the best advice is not to use either. Just set up a Power Profile that suits you.

Yes - it is basically a new OS - there are hundreds of code changes and fixes.
