My laptop is a Toshiba Tecra 550CDT running Windows 98. After logging off into standby mode, the computer would not resume and had to be rebooted. A message came up asking if I wanted to disable my computer from going on standby in the future. I stupidly said yes.

Now the "Standby" option no longer appears in the "Shutdown" menu. I've looked at all the Power Management options and everywhere else I could think of to enable "Standby" again. No luck.

I think the BIOS may need to be changed, but do not know how to access it. Any ideas?

    Thanks!

The solution to get the Standby back sounds improbable, but it does it.
Go into Control Panel\System, click on Device Manager tab. Click on the + next to Floppy Disk Controller, Highlight and Remove the Standard Floppy Disk Controller. Hit OK and reboot. The Floppy Disk Controller will be back along with the Standy option.

You're right. The solution sounds improbable. But you're also right that it works. I'm back in business.

Your solution is certainly something I never would have thought of. Thanks very much for the info.
