Curious event yesterday: Just after switching on my computer it seemed that my Thomson Speedtouch 570 wireless router was emitting an audible constant two-tone alarm and the PC stopped its boot-up in mid-sequence. I switched it off and rebooted and it hasn't happened since. Does anyone know why this might have happened and what it means?

The tone alarm is probably specific to the router. Try contacting the manufacturer's support to find out what the alarm means.

If I was to guess, I wonder if there was a mains spike or short outage. That would explain the coincidence of problems on both devices and getting some strange behaviours.
