Hi, a couple of weeks ago I noticed that on start up I would get a funny sound rather like wind in the speakers! Thinking my speakers were knackered (they are old) I went and bought some new ones but it has made no difference. Any suggestions?
    Cheers, Lorna.

Do you have a microphone connected? Is it "open" at start up? If so try shutting it down until you need it or relocate it away from your speakers. If worst comes to worse, you can always turn your volume down until after start up.

    Hi Lorna...

Your "Starting Windows" sound file could be corrupt. Try changing it to another one or if you don't care just turn it off.

You didn't say what your OS is so...

    - For Win95/WIn98 --> Open the Control Panel and double-click "Sounds ". Select an event, then click the down arrow next to Name and take your pick of sounds.

    - For Win2k --> Open Control Panel and double-click "Sounds and Multimedia ". Select "Sounds" tab then select "Windows" from "Program Events" then select "Start Windows ". If you want to remove it select "None" from the drop down box or change the sound by selecting another sound from the list.

    - For WinXP --> Open Control Panel and double-click "Sounds and Audio Devices Properties ". Select "Sounds" tab then select "Windows" from "Program Events" then select "Start Windows ". If you want to remove it select "None" from the drop down box or change the sound by selecting another sound from the list.

Also make sure you are plugged into the correct speaker plugin in the back of your sound card.

    Hope some of this helps.

Hi, I'm running on XP and I have turned off the start up sound and it seems to have helped. Thanks, Lorna.

    Glad to help...

When you have time could you try a different sound file to see if the problem is still there.
