I am running Win XP Pro SP2 with IE8---I tried to install XP SP3 from my Window Updates on the computer and twice I got a message--- "Cannot Install SP3 "

I ordered a XP3 CD from Microsoft but have not tried to use it yet mainly because I have been reading a lot of info about prerequisites before installing SP3 and a couple of the posts say I cannot install SP3 if I am running IE8.

The SP3 CD has a 2008 date on it and the P/N is Xi4-60166-02.

Does anyone have any suggestions or info about installing SP3--I have read the MS bulletins and they don't mention anything about having IE8 installed or not and I wonder why they would offer me the SP3 thru Win Updates knowing I am running IE8.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Paul

Try the SP3 CD. I haven't heard of any issues with IE8 and SP3. I just did a complete install XP Pro and didn't have any problems with IE8 and SP3 and I installed IE8 before SP3(from a CD I created).

Thanks, one question--should I disconnect from the internet while using this CD or does it need to reach items from the net?

Hi Paul. No you don't need to access the internet while you install SP3.

:D Problem resolved---I removed all my Antispyware/Malaware programs--shut off my AV & Firewall--disconnected from the internet & even disconnected my Maxtor 4 One Touch Back-up---

Put the SP3 CD in and followed the prompts and "Walla" everything went very smoothly--I enabled or reinstalled all the the above items--install over 50 new updates which I find hard to believe because I FAITHFULLY UPDATE everytime they comes out---maybe they had to do with the SP3 update.

So far everything I tried seems to be working as good as before with no problems and the IE8 is functioning the same as before I started.

I now have one less headache and a big thanks to everyone for the comments & suggestions---this still is the BEST HELP FORUM GOING! :p

Thank you Evan but I might have bragged to quickly---I DO HAVE 1 SMALL PROBLEM===on some of the sites when I open them they do not go to full MAXIMIZE-- (not ALL SITES do this--just some)I have tried clicking on the Maximize square and the page will fully open--but when I close it and open it again it does the same thing--

I have also opened a site which doesn't fully opened and have tried DRAGGING ALL 4 SIDES TO THE MAXIMIZE POSITION--but again when I close it and reopen it again it opens in the smaller size--

I know I have run into this problem before but what left of the old brain can't remember what I did to fix it.

    Any Ideas/suggestions please :confused::confused:

    Thanks
    Paul

Evan, that was EXACTLY what the doctor ordered---worked like a charm and being that I am the only one using my computer I even changed the Opening Link on the desktop to open in MAXIMIZE--thanks once again you and all the other people who helped. :D
