i am using windows xp home edition and i was wondering if there is a way to get around having the cd in the cd-rom drive while using that particular software. I have already tried virtual cd and it doesn't work. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thank You

Hi mcash3000 - Welcome to the Board :)
    A little more info, please.

Any software in particular? Are you referring to a software program which runs from the CD with a minimal instal to the HD - e.g MS Autoroute (in UK) - MS Streets and Trips (in US)?

One way round this - which has worked for me - is to copy the entire contents of the CD to a dedicated folder on your hard drive and to make the necessary installation from there - i.e. run setup from the hard disk not from the CD

i'm running pro/e 2001 student edition. The original cd is not working properly. I do have all the installation files on my hard-drive and tried installing the software from the hard-drive but it did not work. I believe as a part of copyright protection it is required but not necessary to have the cd in the cd-rom drive.
Aby further help would be appreciated.

    Thank You

    Would this be CAD software?

I'm not at all familiar with this - used AutoCad extensively before I retired.

You may be right in thinking that the CD must be in the drive - my solution posted above doesn't always work.

If it has got damaged you could contact the manufacturer for a replacement.

Can't really help you further on this.
