When I downloaded and installed Thunderbird 1.07, all went smoothly as expected.
I got an email from a friend and proceeded to send a reply to that person.
Lo and behold, a column of smiley faces appeared that I could choose from to insert into the reply.
For the life of me, I cannot repeat the smiley faces in any emails since.
Is there a switch that has to be thrown or some other way of getting those smiley faces back so they can be used ???

    Thanks in advance..........Daddad

    Daddad ...

You probably don't have the compose/reply windows set large enough. Try dragging the right edge to the right ... the Smiley column should appear. Then, close the window, holding the Ctrl key when you click on the close box ... the windows should open at the new size from then on.

Thanks Jim for the speedy reply.
You are 100% correct, however, the only way I can see the smiley face column is to either "X" out the list of email addresses at the left side or to go up to 1024X768 from my usual 800X600 screen.
I cannot seem to "relocate" the smiley face column further in towards the center.
    Dang !!
Got any more ideas Jim or anyone else ??

    Daddad ...

Yeah, without a hack of some kind (and I haven't heard of one) it seems that the toolbar items can't be moved.

Hmmm ... why keep your contacts list open all the time? Using the "Customize" feature, you can drag the "Contacts" icon to your compose/reply window's toolbar. Then, a simple click on it will open or close the list as necessary.

800x600? Your eyes must be a lot worse than mine ... I'm in my 80th decade and can't see without my glasses. I use 1280x1024 on my 17" desktop screen and 1024x768 (native resolution) on my 14" laptop. I have an acquaintance who was using 800x600 on his 19" monitor ... it was set that way when the computer came out of the box, and he didn't know 1) how to change the setting or 2) that the setting could be changed.

It was a horrible experience. I was using 80x600 resolution with my old Win98, but, since I got XP, it was set to 1024x768.
I did change to 800x600 (start|Control Panel|Appearance.|Change screen resolution). And, indeed, the contacts got to go.
I did not know how to make any changes until a couple of days ago when I had to go into that neighborhood.
How many things are taken for granted! Happy Smilies!
