This outta be fun for somebody
Our company network is pretty simple and terrible.
It consists of (2) trusting NT4 domains
    1) (domain A) NT4 PDC running IIS4, Exchange 5.5, DNS (I know)
    2) (domain A) NT4 BDC running DNS
    3) (domain A) stand alone W2K file server/DHCP
    3) (domain B) Several stand alone W2K servers running Oracle.
    4) (domain B) NT4 PDC running WINS
    5) (domain B) NT4 BDC running Oracle forms server.

Goal, upgrade entire network to W2K, upgrade to Exchange 2K (HEEEELP!!!) and basically make the network more manageable.
I have been thinking of upgrading the W2K file server to a active directory server, honestly, I'm kind of stumped. The major thing is I don't want to move the Exchange server to another if I don't have to, I think moving the web site off of it would be easier and smart (off a PDC). I'm not entirely W2K saavy. Our network has been repair on the go, if ain't broke don't fix it kind of deal. We are a ASP so can't ***** it up. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

You know I would love to help you, but there is just so many steps involved with what you want to do, I would recommend hiring someone to come on site to do it. This is a major jump, but it can be done. I've done several Win2k upgrades, and have also done Exchange migrations to Win2k / E2k.
Who ever you hire though should be Win2k certified, and have Exchange 5.5 / 2000 certifications and experience.

I'm not sure exactly what you want to gain by switching right now from a domain model to AD though. Especially on a 2 Domain system.

It would be fun and a great experience but not sure of the potential benefit.

The other ideas do sound reasonable to do but I completely agree with Bursley. Since you absolutely, positively gotta make this thing work, hire the conversion done and just ask lots of questions during the process.

Depending on the condition of your physical plant, if there are any upgrades that need to be done, it might be good to do it as part of the overall conversion. Getting rid of any hubs for instance. And if your servers are at all heavily loaded with user traffic, maybe going to fiber connections for them. Lots of possiblilties depending on what you got, what you want, and how much money you can put into it.

    maybe don't need AD

Thanks for the scoop, ain't no way my boss is going to pay for outside help. He may purchase new servers, but thats about it.
This is beginning to sound like more than I can handle, I think I will just upgrade my servers to 2k, upgrade my BDC's to domain controllers, stick with 5.5. My biggest concern is getting my PDC/IIS/5.5 server to just run IIS/5.5 and not be a DC.
