Went to turn on my PC (XP /3 Intel 4, 3GB Memory) and the normal startup prior to Windows telling about the OS and Drives, etc. just started moving very slowly though its process. . . almost like slow motion. When it finally loads and Windows boots, my mouse is inactive. I can only shut down using ALT keys. I almost feel like my Processor is giving up the ghost. Any other suggestions?

My suggestion is that it is having trouble loading drivers. The drivers might be the wrong ones (not exactly right). Go to the manufacturer of your hardware, the system/motherboard manufacturer to get updated drivers, don't just use Windows "update drivers" method.

Do you have any added hardware connected? Try disconnect it/them.

If it happening before the logon screen, I would suspect drivers, if it is around the logon screen (loading the desktop), I would suspect startup programs, maybe a dodgy program loading in the background.

The antimalware might be having a problem, you could try uninstalling and reinstalling it if you cannot find other possible reasons.

I might be wrong about what stage you describe
What do you see before and at the stage of the slow-down?

How well does Windows work when it has loaded?
