    Greetings!

    I’m running Windows 7, 64 bit.

I subscribe to Shaw’s 15mb internet service. I had a switch between my computer and Shaw’s cable modem because it enabled me to hook up my printer via Ethernet. Download and upload speeds were great! I could run multiple P2P apps, check email and browse the web with no apparent slowdowns.

I recently bought an X-Box 360 and replaced my switch with a router (D-Link EBR-2310) so I could have my own DHCP server.

Now things are incredibly slow. Even with the X-Box and printer unplugged it’s almost impossible to run two "internet apps" (browser, email, P2P) at the same time. One always times out and the other, if it doesn’t also time out, takes forever for what was once was a 2 second task.

I’ve tried "tweaking" the firmware of the router, but it doesn’t seem to help. In the past I’ve used a Linksys router with two PCs, one Mac, one Ethernet printer, and a PlayStation and had no apparent internet problems.

Any thoughts or suggestions on how to speed things up?

    Thanks,

    Brian

It is possible you might have Malware. Just to be safe you should go to the Malware and Virus forum and have them check your computer. They're excellent.
