Hi suraj12, Welcome to Windowsbbs! :)

Follow these steps to make the computer run faster:

    1. Click Start< Control Panel< Add/Remove Programs and uninstall any programs that you don't use.
    2. While in the add/remove programs window click the button that says add/remove windows components and uncheck the checkboxes next to Indexing Service, MSN Explorer, Windows Messenger and click ok when you are done.
    3. Disable any Windows Services that you don't use by following Black Vipers Services Guide.
    4. Download and run ATF Cleaner and select all the checkboxes in the program then hit the empty selected button, http://majorgeeks.com/ATF_Cleaner_d4949.html
    5. Run Disk Cleanup, Start< All Programs< Accessories< Sytstem Tools< Disk Cleanup. When its done calculating how much free space you can save make sure you check all the checkboxes except for compress old files on the Disk Cleanup tab. Now click the More Options tab and under System Restore click the cleanup button. When it asks you if you want to delete all but the most recent restore point click Yes. Now click ok on the Disk Cleanup window to allow Disk Cleanup to remove unnecessary files from the computer.
    6. Download and run Auslogics Disk Defrag from here.
    7. Click Start< Right Click My Computer and click Properties. Click the advanced tab< Under performance hit settings< click advanced again and under virtual memory click change< Make sure your harddrive is selected and select the option that says system managed size and click the set button. Now Click ok on all the windows to close them out and reboot the computer.
    8. Also what security programs do you have installed?

Let me know if your computer is any faster after performing the above steps. :)

Press Ctrl-Shift-Esc on the keyboard. This will bring up Task Manager. Click the processes tab. Make sure the checkbox that says show processes from all users on this computer is checked. Could you tell me the number of processes your computer is running.

Also click Start< Run and type msconfig and hit enter. Click the Startup Tab. Click the button that says Disable all. Now click the Services tab. Click the checkbox that says hide all Microsoft Services. When the checkbox is selected click the disable all button. Then click ok. Reboot the computer when prompted. Is there any difference in the computers performance?

A hard drive that has experienced a serious power outage crash can also cause issues such as this.
For a simple check for this, I suggest going to Start\Run, type in chkdsk /f and press Enter. You will see a message about needing to do this at the next system restart, just type a Y and press Enter. The next time the computer starts or you restart it, your hard drive will be checked for errors.
To check what it has fixed for you, go into the Event Viewer, can be found in Control Panel\Administrative Tools . On the left side under Application, then look under the Source column on the right side. You should find an entry from Winlogon. It will show what was done.
If it shows 'cleaning up unused index entries...', these aren't serious.
