Take a look at This article explaining basically what is causing the error you are seeing.

Downloaded and installed CDChecker. Ran it on my copy of Windows XP Service Pack 2, showed 482 errors. Cannot recover. I allready installed this update on my computer before I tried to slipstream it. . So far, everything seems to be working allright. Did I get a bad copy from MS , or is this the norm? I am on dialup, that is why I ordered the CD. Is there any way I can slipstream this?

Yes. On the CD the file is called XPSP2.EXE. You can use these instructions, just replace the name of the SP2 file...

Well, if you read the article Newt suggested, you'll have some ideas where to start looking... I have no idea why you are getting this, so the answer is probably no, there's no way "around" it...

Try cleaning the CD, or the CD-ROM drive...

Are there scratches on the CD?

It's the only other thing I can think of. Try finding another CD, SP2 is available from several places on CD.
