Not answering for Bill, but I have the same controller on my Windows 7 PC, and it is set to *not* wake the computer (box unchecked). My wife's aunt stayed with us months ago, and don't recall her having any problems tapping into my network with her smart phone, course, my network protocol is handled at the integrated modem / router instead of the computer.

I figured the same for me, but I want him to have access to the printer, if he needs it. It is WiFi, so I guess he can access it through the router, without the computer on.

Which is the best way to go anyway. As you noted, no "host" computer needs to be up and running for others to print. No sharing needs to be enabled that badguys might exploit. Plus the networked printer can be physically located in a central location convenient for all, not consuming desk space.

I'll just unclick the family controller from waking up the computer and then see if any issues arise. Thanks for all your help.
