Slave hard drive problems

    I was copying some mp3's from my c:\ to my d:\ and half way through copying my pc crashed and came back with the message "One of your disks may need to be checked for consistency ........" and then it ran through a check which took about an hour then loaded up windows, but since then i have not been able to get into my d:\ since and every time i try to load it, it requests that i format the drive, can someone please help me.

    Sounds like it's knackered. Even if you could get it to work with a format, I wouldn't trust it to work for much longer.

    What OS are you useing ? XP ? If XP, what does hdd show under Disk Management?
    Is it 2 hdd's or 1 hdd with 2 partitions?

    im using xp, it comes up as two seperate hdd's but i'm starting to face the fact its knackered.

    Would go to the hdd manufactures web site and test with their hdd utility to find out if hdd is bad or not. IF the hdd is good there are recovery programs one can try.

    This means Windows is still communicating with the drive, so it is is still "working ", although there seems to be faults. It may be faults in the MBR (Master Boot Records) or in the file system.

    Let us know the results of testing with the manufacturer's utilities.
