Shut Down/Restart Problem

    I got Window 2000 Pro and whenver i press shut down or restart on the start -> shutdown, the screen just goes black and pc stops and never really shuts down or restarts. How do i fix this?

    Er - if the screen goes black and the PC stops, that pretty much indicates the PC has shut down. The question is, was it an orderly shutdown where all running programs were allowed to finish what they were doing or was it a "forced exit" for all running apps which could cause data loss.

    If you select "restart" and it still just shuts down, you do have an issue though.

    First thing I'd try is to disable APM (automatic power management) in the BIOS and see if it behaves then.

    If not, try getting the free shutdown manager from Here and see if your system will respond properly with it.
