I am trying to find a way to bring up the shutdown image, (StandBy, Turn Off, Restart) the reason for this is I wish to program a button on my keyboard to display this so I have a choice. I have looked at the Shutdown command (system32/shutdown.exe) but this is not what I require also I am not interested in 3rd party applications.

I am using XP Home SP1 any suggestions would be helpful (even if it is not possible)

Far simpler method via the keyboard .....

    Windows key > u > u to shut down

    Windows key > u > s to standby

    Windows key > u > r to restart.

Can be done in microseconds :D

Nice one, mickzer - thanks for that, a new one on me!

I reckon the key combination I posted is much faster though - especially for a one-fingered typist :D

When I pressed Alt-F4 I went straight to my desktop. Every open window closed.

    %windir%\System32\shutdown.exe -s -t 0

That's my "kill" switch on QL

    %windir%\System32\shutdown.exe -r -t 0

    That's my restart in QL

Alt+f4 is the keyboard combo to close the window you're currently viewing. If you don't release it right away it'll continue to close windows until there aren't anymore open ones left. When you don't have any windows open it should bring up the shutdown screen.
