Can someone tell me where to find and Disable the "Show Related Links" option in IE6.

I just read this article and would like to check mine.

    Paul,

Searched high and low for an answer to this, without much success. The best I could come up with is that Show Related links is allied to alexa.com with some connection to msn.

Alexa is regarded as spyware by Spybot and is removed by running that program.

I am Alexa free and Show related links does not work - presumably for that reason.

For piece of mind - if you have not already done so download Spybot and AdAware .

Run Spybot twice - delete all it finds on the first run, leave all it wants to leave after the second run.

    THEN

Run AdAware (run ONLY after Spybot), configure to max settings, all files and compressed files and delete all it finds.

(Thanks to mflynn for the above)

Thanks Pete C--I know I have seen that somewhere--it's a shame the article didn't state how to disabled it.

I follow mflynn's advice all the time and have Spybot & AdAware plus Spyblaster all downloaded.

    Paul,

Did you see this link at the bottom of the page at Secunia .

I haven't read it word for word yet, but it looks like the answer you are looking for ?

    Thanks Pete,
I think I'm just going to let AdAware handle it.
I checked everything under TOOLS in IE6 and can't find it so maybe AdAware already deleted it.

    Hi paul43
The key in the registry is at
    HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Extensions

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Extensions\{c95fe080-8f5d-11d2-a20b-00aa003c157a}]
    "MenuText "= "@shdoclc.dll,-864 "
    "MenuStatusBar "= "@shdoclc.dll,-865 "
    "Script "=hex(2):43,3a,5c,57,49,4e,44,4f,57,53,5c,77,65,62,5c,72,65,6c,61,74,65,\
    64,2e,68,74,6d,00
    "clsid "= "{1FBA04EE-3024-11D2-8F1F-0000F87ABD16} "
    "Icon "= ",4 "
    "HotIcon "= ",4 "
    "ButtonText "= "@shdoclc.dll,-866 "

Back up your registry first and make a copy of the "Show Related Links" key before you delete it.
I have a folder named Reg files and all the "Stuff" I remove from the registry is backed up here in case I have to put it back.

It is Alexa, the search engine that plants the phone home link, JV16 will locate and remove it.
