After I create a shortcut on my desktop to a web page, when I use that shortcut I get a message saying Cannot locate Netscape.exe. Since I am using Explorer I am not sure why this happens or how to fix it. Anybody have any ideas?

    Thanks.

    re: Shortcut

Open windows explorer then go to tools->folder options->file types. In the registered file types box scroll down to internet shortcuts - beside "opens with" what does it say? It should say rundll32. If not click the edit button then in the actions box click OPEN and then click edit again. In the "application used to perform this action" box type:
    rundll32.exe shdocvw.dll,OpenURL %l
Atleast this is what is showing up on my system and having both netscape and IE my internet shortcuts open up with IE.
Make sure that IE is your default browser. In IE click tools ->internet options->programs- make sure the box is checked beside "internet explorer should check to see whether it is the default browser "

    Hope this helps.

I dont' have a "folder options" under my tools menu. I only have internet options and I can't find anything in there about file types. I'm using IE V 5.5 and Win98.

    jazcan Hi

    Your confusing me also .

    go to start->programs->windows explorer->then click on tools->...
    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
I think you mean open any windows panel --for instance my documents.

    ktthomas Hi
You must have had Netscape or still do , whos your connection
    service provider ?
You can with ie go to to help(on the tool bar) and for netscape users find some information.

So open any folder on the decktop go to tools then folder options
then file types scroll down to the netscape icon highlight it and choose to change, then find the internet explorer use it .

Of course this all depends on the version of windows you use.

But if your connection service uses a netscape ie plugin it will change back

Let us know if this helps
    Lonny

ktthomas & lonnyjones1--The objective is to get to Folder Options|File Types tab. As always there are several ways to do it. My Documents|View|Folder Options will do. From almost any other Windows Explorer window you would click Tools|Folder Options|File Types tab, which is jazcan's suggestion.
    I usually do Start|Settings|Folder Options|File Types tab.

Do you know, I've been using win98 for many years now and I can't believe I never used your way to get to folder options.

Thanks for the tip- I've learnt something new and useful today!

lonnyjones1--Just click Start|Settings|Folder Options|File Types tab and look at the settings for Internet Shortcuts there.
