I first upgraded Windows 7 to Windows 10. After a day or two, Cortona stopped working. Then a day later, the Start button, Search (Cortona) and Edge-- all stopped working. After trying a couple of fixes from YouTube which didn't work, I reinstalled Windows 10. And that made the audio stop working. Thus, I have an additional problem.

I changed the audio driver before I reinstalled Windows 10 from RealTek to Windows High definition audio driver as the sound was too low. But now the audio doesn't work at all, because the Windows audio service cannot be started (error 1068). I looked at Microsoft help instructions and tried to implement them. But one of the things I was supposed to do, starting Multimedia Class Scheduler, I could not do, because that entry was not listed in the Services.

Now, after reinstalling Windowing 10, it looks like that I can't revert to Windows 7 which was a possibility before.

The current Windows 10 is very slow and takes about 10 minutes to get it operate. Even then, things go pretty slowly.

I am desperately in need of help.

Have you tried > Settings > Update & Security > Recovery > Reset this PC?
Have you updated drivers since the Upgrade? You can go back to your previous OS, but you will require your Product Key. Neil.

The problem is I can't get to Settings without using the Start Button. On "This PC page" the "Settings" button is missing. (Star Mark).

Hi Moorty, Do you have the New Notifications Icon in the Systray (lower right next to time and date)?
Click on that Icon > click on All Settings > then follow my previous instruction. Neil.

Here is what happened. The Notifications button, Windows button, none of them worked. But I got to chat with one of the (actually three of them) Microsoft technicians and he showed me how to get to the settings menu by typing in the run command (which I got by right clicking on the Windows button) and enter ms.settings: Display. That was most helpful. Except, I had to forego all my personal files (I know I should have backed them up -- the last back up I did was in January 2014). So the resetting button enabled me to get rid of all the stuff on the computer and reinstall windows 10. I already did one reinstall keeping my personal files. That didn't help. So I had to do it this way. Now I am have a clean computer with no problems. Except I have to rebuild all my software and get some important personal files from my prior e-mails and backup files. I can live with that.

About the audio: I solved the problem by uninstalling the current windows HD audio driver, downloading a fresh driver and installing it; also, made sure that audio services or what not were started and adjusting the bit-rate setting to 24000 or whatever (higher). Thus all problems are solved. And thank you both for your responses.
