With a recent clean install of XP I also installed IE8. I want to set the views for various folders... it appears the default is thumbnails so I want to set folders other than "My Pictures" to detail view. I understand how to do this to ALL folders but don't know if there is a way to set the view to a higher level folder and sub-folders thus making this chore easier than having to set each folder (and sub folder) individually. Maybe a utility somewhere similar to global rename?

Set all folders to detail view then got to my picture and set that as Thumbnails (view->thumbnails) it should stick.

Let us know how you get on.

I set ALL folders to Detail View and then went to My Pictures and it appears I would have to go to each sub-folder in My Pictures to set the view to Thumbnails. There are over 100 sub-folders... not what I had in mind. What am I missing here?

Sorry Jim you're not missing nothing, I assumed My Pictures didn't have sub folders.

But since the view is only important when you actually visit the folder why not set it the first time you access it (ie not all at once). The view sticks so you'll only have to do it once per folder.

There's probably other solutions out there so I'll sit back and await other's ideas.

There is a free script that will do what you want. Get it HERE. Download that and unzip it to its own folder. Read the readme file and go for it.

It's fairly intuitive but if you stumble, post back for help. I use it with success and can perhaps help you if needed.
