server or DNS error

    I am having a problem signing onto Internet Explorer. I keep getting this message "Cannot find Server or DNS error. I have searched but have not been able to find a solution. Is there someone who is able to help me with this problem. By the way I am running WindowsXP and most of the solutions are for earlier versions of Windows
