    Greetings,

I have had to demote my exchange server from a DC (2nd place) to a member server. We are only about 40 users strong and have 2 servers, a main DC (fileserver) and an exchange server (was DC backup now member server). My question is, if you demote a server is there anything special you need to do to make it happen. I am having DNS issues where the now member server is not updating from the main DNS server, main DC. Should my other question is can I reformat and re-install a main DC, perhaps backing up my AD somewhere, bringing backup up with the same structer, or what???

Watch out your Master rules because that rules must be always on the directory structure.
There are 5 rules that you must have on the DC's or DC it depends on your AD structure.

    2003 Server Demotion

If you DNS Zone is Active Directory integrated... it will not automatically replicate to the member server as it did when the other server was a DC. Is it a Active Directory integrated zone?
