    I use Outlook Express version 6.00.2900.2180.(xpsp_sp2_rtm 040803-2158).
    In the drop down window this also appears
    "directdb.dll 6.00.2900.3138(xpsp_sp2_gdr.070514-1324)
    XP PRO SERVICE PACK 2

    SBCGOLBAL.NET has changed their settings to using (on the advanced mode) to have

    “This server requires a secure connection SSL checked and the ports to SMPT 465 and the POP3 port to 995.â€

    When I do that I get the following error message:

    “Your server you are connected to is using a security certificate that could not be verified. The certificate’s CN name does not match the passed value.â€

    Is there an updated Outlook Express or a patch that I can install to bring it up to date so I can use the new settings ?

    Is there some other problem that I need to look at? I have spent hours on this.:)

    Thanks

    Click on Tools->Account properties->Advanced tab
    Change the port numbers and place a check mark in "This server requires... "

    I have done that already and it is engaged right now. I know how to do that and I know how to undo that. It is when I have those settings engaged that I get the error message -

    "Your server you are connected to is using a security certificate that could not be verified. The certificate’s CN name does not match the passed value. "

    I also have an older Gateway running windows 2000 pro. I have OE set to the same SSL settings and I DO NOT GET THE ERROR MESSAGE (on the gateway).

    It seems to be something related to IE 7 which I have not been able to figure out and I do not feel like eraseing the entire C drive and reinstalling everything. It is quite time consuming.

    In IE7, go to Tools > Internet Options and select the Advanced tab. Browse down to the Security section and un-check Warn about certificate address mismatch.

    Restart IE.
