I rather doubt it but stranger things have happened. :) I'm running XP Home and here's what mine looks like for comparison:

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search]
    "SearchAssistant "= "http://ie.search.msn.com/{SUB_RFC1766}/srchasst/srchasst.htm "
    "CustomizeSearch "= "http://ie.search.msn.com/{SUB_RFC1766}/srchasst/srchcust.htm "

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search\SearchAssistant Explorer]

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search\SearchAssistant Explorer\Main]

I'd suggest trying that first, just for laughs. Since we're dealing with the browser either one may work. The system it comes from may not be relevant.

I just tried your version to see if it worked...no problem. It changed my search engine...so I guess the answer is..yes, it will work.

johngkerr--If you mean how to change the default Search engine when you click Search (in IE) or enter a search item into the address bar, it might be simpler to click Search|Customize|and if the search engine you prefer is not offered, click "AutoSearch Settings" (bottom left), enter the Search page you prefer.
