My Plustek scanner Optic Pro 4830 is physically attached to my new computer (as is printer via the scanner and printer works OK). The scanner is also listed in Start>Programs. I have adjusted the gamma and the colour settings, the light is there, it makes all the right noises and the scanning meter shows up as it is scanning but I just get a black screen when I scan anything. I got the impression the driver was missing so I downloaded the latest driver for the model from Plustek. The zip file is 1.2KB and still was when the files were extracted and I placed it on a floppy. I selected Control Panel>System but a scanner is not listed so I selected Control Panel>Add New Hardware First I had it search for missing hardware and it reported none. Then I selected ‘From list’ and it didn’t list a scanner so I clicked ‘Imaging Device’ and it was not listed there but does say, “If hardware not listed and you have driver disk click Have Disk” which I did but when pointed to the floppy it reported “The specified location doesn’t contain information about your hardware. Help!
Computer is AMD 2400, Windows Me and everything else seems in order.

    Regards,
    Pat

I just read that so far as ‘driver files’ (often downloaded from the manufacturer’s web-site) are concerned, all you need to do is first unzip it (they normally are zipped up) then find the “Setup.exe” file and double click it. Like a well trained dog it will now find its own way to where-ever it needs to go and install itself.
It certainly worked with my Scanner driver file (see my first post) and it is now working fine!

    Regards,
    Pat
