Hello from San Jose, Ca. We are having a problem with saving files created in Word 2000 to floppy disk. This only happens once in awhile. We tried to save a doc. to floppy by dragging it to the floppy icon. It started to copy and then said the disk was write-protected. We checked the disk and it was write-protected so we set it to read and write. We again draged the file to the floppy icon and this time it copied. When we went to open the file in Word a file conversion utility box came up asking what to open the file with. Needless to say all we got was a bunch of garble. This file and others was all created in Word 2000. This only happens once in awhile. Could this be caused by the fact the disk was write-protected when we first tried to save the file?

Any help would be appriciated. Thanks

    Don,

In answer to your question - No. Write protection on a floppy does just that - prevents ANY data being written to the disc. Although the copy dialogue appears, Word/Windows will first check that the destination for the copy command is available.

You may have a dodgy floppy drive - or the floppy itself may be dodgy, but I doubt it.

This may sound obvious, but are you sure that it was a *.doc file you dragged across?

You can always use File > Save As and direct Word to the A drive, as I'm sure you know.

Probaly nothing to do with your problem Deweave, but, I was having all kinds of Floppy Disk problems that were solved when a Geek friend of mine noticed my magnetic paper clip holder sitting next to the box I stored the diskettes in. Moved the paper clip holder, end of problems.
