Safe Mode Hangs

I have a problem when going into safe mode. I have Windows XP Professional operating system. Every time I go into safe mode, I get a black screen with DOS on it talking about partitions, etc.. but it stays that way indefinitely and never goes into safe mode.

I called Dell and they couldn't help a bit... told me I had a virus but I have run virus scans and everything comes up okay. I have used Ewido, Norton, AVG, Spy-Bot....

Have you tried the other startup options?

Start > run > type msconfig > ok

On the general tab: Diagnostic starup and Selective startup.

See if these work.
