:confused:Remote Procedure Call Services Properties applet has grayed out areas at "Startup Type" and "Log On As" areas. Many services depend on RPC functioning correctly. I feel that I must make Registry changes to fix this problem, but do not know where to start. This problem started when Ad-Aware 2007 crashed. It depends on RPC to operate. This is a two week old current installation of Ad-Aware 2007. This application and RPC problem started three days ago.
Thanks to all who respond, and feel free to email me directly.

Welcome to Windows BBS Forums damper

Would like to verify your question / problem...

You have screen messages issuing your problem ??
---(OR)--
RPC is grayed out in XP services??

If it is the first problem, Go To ...
Start | Control Panel | Administrator Tools | SERVICES
Locate "Remote Procedure Call" (RPC) in listing
Does it say - Status = Started --- Startup Type = Automatic ??
If not, double click on service and do the following ...
Set Startup type to Automatic
Now click on Start button.
Does service start with NO errors?

If the above does NOT work or is grayed out, please go into Event Viewer (start with System view) and look for any errors, example RPC problems.

(UPDATE)
I noticed you just edited / added to you original thread. Problem started with AdAware 2007 crash.
Please answer my questions first. Possible you have System Restore point prior to crash event, but lets hold off for now

Clarification of Problem

First thing thanks for you quick reply. BTW I was borne and raised in Appleton, WI and now live in the Dallas, TX area.

When starting Ad-Aware 2007 I get System error: 1810 has occurred. Description: service is not online. Application terminates.

At the Ad-Aware 2007 Services applet. If I try to start the service here I get Error: 1067, The Process Terminated Unexpectedly. Properties dialog otherwise appears normal with the service stopped. I can not restart it.

AT the Remote Procedures Call (RPC) applet. I am logged on at "This Account" computer name\NameName and the service is started, but when I check the Dependencies Tab the components that depend on RPC services is grayed out.

These problems started three days ago when I attempted to run Ad-Aware 2007, which I do not allow to run as a startup. ZoneAlarm Suite and PC Spyware Doctor run at startup.

I have never had these kinds of problems until after I installed and initiated the new Ad-Aware 2007 product.

Running WinXP Pro Intrel P4 EE 3.4 2GB RAM 320GB RAID 0 160GB local storage.

I think the most straghtforward way of sorting this out is to seriously consider using System Restore - ensure that you have a full backup of your data elswhere first :)

Hi Dan

Always nice to hear from a former Wisconsinite .. bet you don't miss our winters. ;).
I'm not sure if I could handle your summers, very hot and humid.

It would appear your AdAware install is broken ... which is why I suggested you give us some more info before taking the Restore option. You could try a uninstall / reinstall attempt, but if you have some bad writes in registry (when AdAware crashed), they would probably stay behind.
Follow PeterC's suggestion per good backups prior to the restore.
