I am currently on a Tiscali 155 Kb ADSL and I was thinking of buying a router so I can use my laptop on ADSL, my question is as follows:

Is this possible on a 155kbs or do you have to be on the full 512kbs for it to work?

A router watches for packets addressed to a device that is not on your local network and when it finds one, is squirts it out to another location for further handling. In your case, it just passes everything out to the ISP (unless it is from your PC1 and addressed to your PC2 or PC3 or whatever) and lets the ISP's routers worry about sending it along.

The router really doesn't care what speed you are running and simply passes the packets along as fast as the connection allows.

You will be fine with a router but unless you are getting a router/switch combination or are running wireless on all your PCs, you do need some way for the PCs to connect to your internal network.
