I have my ISPs cheap and cheerful router (HUAWEI Echolife HG521) which is reliable, but the wireless signal is so weak that it does not reach much beyond the room where it is located . There is only one room where it can be located, since the UK telephone supplier( who has the sole right to touch the master socket, it seems, has re-wired my master socket with a built in filter , with the unintended consequence ( as far as I am concerned) that all of the other telephone sockets in the house don't get the broadband connection.

I also have an Netgear DG834PN where the wireless signal is at least usable in every room in the house, but it frequently drops out - that is to say the PPoP light goes out although the internet light etc stay on. The only solution that I know is to pull out the power plug for more than 10 seconds and then start again.
Is there anything I can do , like some alternate setting somewhere, to get greater reliability ?

I have read all that stuff ; clearly it is a known issue with this router, although opinion seems to vary as to whether firmware upgrades really cure it. Since I'm an optimist, I'll assume that all the folk who got a fix never bothered to go back and say so.
I haven't done the upgrade yet - maybe tonight. But I'll call this resolved, unless difficulties continue.
    Thanks for the advice TonyT.

I did the upgrade a few minutes ago ; after some initial problems getting past a window where I was supposed to be burning a disc, it was very easy; now to see if it actually works at solving the problem !
If no further messages, any reader may assume it did.

Hope that fixes it. Can never understand why an ISP wants good money to give you service and then sends you junk to do it with. Just sayin. :D

My fingers are getting very tired remaining crossed all this time - but so far- 2 or 3 days now, absolutely no problems at all. Sure was good advice , and in fact somewhat contrary to what was said about this by several of the subscribers to that thread I was referred to ; however some of those guys may have quite different usage to mine.
