    Hi,

I have a win98 SE PII running IE 5.5 and outlook 5. I have a dial up modem connection to my ISP and the following problem:

I double click on my internet connection icon - sometimes it does not connect and I cannot reconnect because something called rnaap is still apparently running. If I quit rnaap using CTRL ALT DEL I can sometimes doubleclick on my internet connection icon again and connect. However, more often than not the software crashes and I have to restart the machine.
Is there any way I can stop rnaap from hanging around after a failed (or even successful) internet connection? If I CTRL ALT DEL and end task it sometimes leads to a general windows error and then I have to restart the machine again.

Also if I am surfing and I get disconnected (after 2 hours) a reconnect box appears. However a second dial up box also appears asking me if I want to reconnect. I usually have to select connect in both boxes to connect. What is going on?

    thanx

Are you using software from your ISP to setup and make the connection ?

I had this problem when I was using software from the ISP.

I chucked it and made my own connection and that ended the problems.

    Hi Billybob,

yes I am using software from my ISP to make the connection. Unfortunately I do not have a clue how to make my own connection.

    thanx

spooky--Are you sure it is rnaap.exe and not rnaapp.exe? The latter is the DialUp Networking application program. Some people think the former is a virus. See
    http://www.computing.net/windows95/wwwboard/forum/10489.html
If it is rnaapp.exe and you do not have to worry about a virus, the way you create your own connection is to click My Computer|DialUp Networking|Make New Connection. That will open a wizard to help you set up your own connection to an ISP. However, you will see that you need some information to do it, like the phone number of the ISP, what type of Protocol to use, etc. Your ISP will have to tell you what to choose. But it seems you already have the connection set up and in the DialUp Networking window you should also see an icon for your existing connection. You can see the settings already being used by right clicking on the icon and clicking Properties. I do not know if it will help to make a duplicate connection using the settings you will find in there, but you can try.
